CELEBRATE EARLY SPRING IN THE GARDENS

Tryon Palace is a replica of the Royal Governor’s mansion from the 1760’s and includes sixteen acres of gardens in and around the palace grounds. Each garden area offers unique opportunities to photograph formal garden “rooms” and architecture, statuary and a wide range of flowers and flowering trees and native plants. We should be greeted by an array of tulips, ranunculus, hellebores, hyacinths, daffodils, irises, snow drops and a blend of annual blooms, flowering vines and so much more.

Join Jamie Konarski Davidson for a day in the gardens of Tryon Palace and celebrate the arrival of spring blooms. As the weather warms up, we will see more and more signs of new growth and color. While in the gardens, you will learn in-camera techniques that go beyond the straight shot – selective focus, multiple exposures, ICM (in-camera motion) and more. You’ll learn how to refine compositions and how to control the light and shadows for best results. With a small group, you’ll have plenty of opportunities for group and individual hands-on instruction.

STRETCH YOUR “SEEING” MUSCLES

I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” – Georgia O’Keeffe

If you love flowers and gardens, this is the place for you to immerse and expand your skills as well as learn how to go beyond the documentary image. Consider the abstract floral images and the emotions they can evoke by focusing on color, line, shape, form, pattern and texture. In the process, you’ll discover that abstracts are waiting to be discovered everywhere – in nature, architecture, flowers and even the simplest of objects.

This workshop will challenge those who are literal purists and excite those who lean easily into the interpretive style of photography. Prior to the workshop you’ll receive information that will help you arrive prepared with gear as well as ideas to explore in the gardens.
